Tell me what you are working on
The first conversation is free and takes as long as it takes. Describe what you are working on and where it is stuck. A paragraph is enough.
Before you send
What to put in the message
Three things make a first reply useful instead of a request for more information: what the company does, what decision is in front of you, and whichever documents already exist even if they are drafts. A term sheet with two open items beats a summary written to sound tidy.
Deadlines matter more than length. If a counterparty has set one, say so in the first line. It changes what is worth doing, and sometimes changes whether the work is worth starting at all.
Submitting this form does not create an attorney-client relationship.

Email reaches me just as well, if that is what is easiest. The address is below.
Whatever the matter, business or personal, either door leads to the same first conversation.
After you write
What happens next
A first exchange is about whether this is the right kind of problem for the right kind of help. That can usually be settled in one conversation, and settling it early is what stops an engagement from being negotiated backwards later.
If it is a fit, the next step is scope and structure in writing before any document is drafted. If it is not, you should expect to be told that plainly, along with what kind of help would actually fit.
